Wartime in Thanet comes to life for St Gregory’s Primary children

Pupils from St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School took part in an immersive history trip exploring wartime Thanet.
They visited the Ramsgate Tunnels, where they learned how local residents sheltered underground during air raids, gaining insight into daily life on the home front and the importance of community resilience. The children also discovered Thanet’s frontline role in World War II, including how Ramsgate Harbour supported the Dunkirk evacuation.
The trip continued at the RAF Hurricane and Spitfire Museum, where pupils saw real aircraft and even sat in a cockpit, helping them understand the role of the Royal Air Force and bringing their classroom learning to life.
